RU40 - The sound of UB40 playing all the songs you love

  • Danny Smith

    Danny our master of ceremonies.

  • Roy Brown

Roy has been musically involved with bands playing bass and harmonising alongside Danny since the late 70s.

Roy started his musical career playing heavy metal (The Ferrets) and during the 80s he was bassist and co-writer with the original reggae band Duballup.

90s bands include "Ujama" (African) "Shoot the Rooster" (country) "The Untouchables" (Motown)

More latterly, Roy has turned his hand to music production and is also the bassist with Irish band "Shamrock Keys"

Favourite UB40 track: Where did I go wrong

Most likely to say: Βάλτο τέρμα (push it to the max)

  • Tim Smart

Every reggae band needs a great drummer. Tim is ours

  • JIm Cutts

    Our cool sax player

  • Chris Welsh

    Every ladies favourite

  • Julian Caesar

Often on percussion and sometimes on the drums is our very own Julio

  • Andy Powels

Keyboards (Korg PS60 and Yamaha) plus occasional guitar. NB. Equipment chosen for carrying weight rather than features!

Musical career started with classical and currently in the Reggae period - Mozart to Marley. Been playing music with these same vagabonds for far too long!

Favourite UB40 song: The Earth Dies Streaming.

Owing to his stage proximity to Roy is most likely to say .. ' Roy have you farted?'

  • Andy Matheson

Andy plays a telecaster or a Stratocaster through a Firehawk multi effects processor and a Blue Sky reverb pedal. Also occasionally plays keys using a Nord 6. He uses a Boss Pro speaker so he doesn’t have to rely on any other monitoring

Andy’s favourite UB40 track is King. He still owns a copy of ‘Signing Off’ on vinyl purchased after seeing them as support to The Pretenders

Most likely to say ‘Can I have a bit more empathy and a touch less sarcasm on the mic’

  • Martin Brisland

    Martin on keys

  • Jon Foyle

A man of many talents. Jon will stand in on bass or keyboards

  • Baz

Baz - A great front man who stands in for Danny. Baz has a love of ska and reggae that goes back to the Coventry ska scene of 1975. Baz was a guitarist in the Coventry Ska band Blue Busters who had a strong influence his school friends Terry Hall of the Specials and Stanley Campbell of Specials aka. Baz is famous for turning down Selecter as their skanking guitarist, instead forming a new band with Charlie and Desmond who eventually migrated to Selecter. Baz continued to play with Specials original drummer Silverton. Rich in music stage craft, and a passion for Jamaican music Baz is ready to deliver his unique style cut from those early days in Coventry -the city of British Ska

  • Dan Stedman

Dan mostly sits behind the sound desk providing a most excellent PA system and great ears to create the perfect mix for the RU40 sound.

Dan is also a great drummer and will stand in for Tim when needed
